Destinies

Destinies serve as a way to make each character a part of the story, giving them their own personal plotline to follow in parallel to the main plot line. Sometimes these Destinies connect to the main plotline, but other times it constitutes a separate side quest. Destinies can be created from a Player Character's (PCs) background, can appeal to a PC's particular interests, or can simply present fun or exciting quests. Sometimes Destinies are created with a particular PC in mind, while other times they are open to be chosen by any interested PC. Most destinies will be specific to a single character, but sometimes multiple characters can participate in the same destiny.

The purpose of the Destiny is to provide character's with a personal connection to the story. In this vein, the player has ultimate control over their Destiny, having the final say in any choices or decisions that must be made as a part of that Destiny. While other character's may offer advice and opinions, it is ultimately up to the PC to decide what happens with their destiny.

More information on forming destinies and their story structure can be found on the Creating Destinies page.

Destiny Points

As a PC makes progress within his Destiny story arc, he or she is rewarded with Destiny Points. Destiny Points can be utilized for a number of things, including Talents, and are described in more detail on the Destiny Points page. The rate at which a character will gain Destiny Points varies, but at minimum it is expected that a character will gain one every two levels.

Abandoning a Destiny

Sometimes a Player Character will make a decision that ends the Destiny path early. They could choose to abandon it, make a decision that causes it to end prematurely, or simply lose interest. When this happens the Gamemaster can either offer a new Destiny for the PC to follow, or look for an opportunity to create a different or modified Destiny.
