Leprosy
Description
Leprosy, often whispered as the "Cursed Rot" among the common folk, is a slow and insidious affliction that's believed to be a punishment from the gods for sins committed, either by the afflicted or their forebears. The plagued find their skin turning pale and leathery, with patches devoid of feeling. Gradually, their extremities, such as fingers, toes, and noses, blacken and wither as if consumed by an unseen flame. Lepers are often shunned and banished to the outskirts, relegated to live in colonies called "Lazar Houses", where they are looked after by the rare kind-hearted soul, but mostly forgotten by the world.
Leprosy is a very long term disease. This disease entry describes an initial exposure and the possibility for the immune system to fight off the disease. Failing to fight off this initial aspect of the disease earns a creature the Leper Trait, which represents the long term aspects of the disease.
Typical Exposure
The precise manner of Leprosy’s spread is shrouded in mystery and superstition. Many believe that it is a curse passed down through bloodlines, or a punishment from the gods. Others claim that merely gazing upon the afflicted or hearing their voice can pass on the malady. While some suspect it has to do with contact, many sufferers find themselves isolated long before the signs of the malady manifest, the fear of its spread dominating the minds of those around them.
