Opportunity

Sometimes when a creature takes an action in combat (or a similar situation) it creates an opening for an opponent to attack (or complete a similar action). This is known as an Opportunity. When you use an action that grants an Opportunity, your opponent may use an Opportunity Action against you (possibly interrupting your action). Opportunity Actions are limited to a maximum of 3 per round and cannot interrupt your turn (i.e. you cannot take an opportunity in the middle of your action or in response to your own action, including off-turn actions such as Immediate, Interruptive, or Reactive Actions).

You may not take Opportunity Actions on a creature that has any form of Cover or Concealment against you. Additionally, certain Status Effects and abilities may prevent you from taking an Opportunity Action.

Granting Opportunity

The following actions grant an opportunity:

  • Move through or out of an area a creature Threatens without shifting.
  • Making an attack or using a power the provokes an opportunity (indicated by [P] in the effect or attack line of the power).
  • Utilizing an action that otherwise states that it grants an opportunity.
  • At the GM's discretion, any action that causes you to stop paying attention to an opponent while within their threat can grant an opportunity (ex. making a Heal check on a 3rd party, pulling a weapon from a pack or other stowed location, etc).
