Damage Resistance

Damage Resistance represents a 50% reduction in the Damage taken by a creature in response to a specific damage type (such as bludgeoning, non-magical weapon, fire, or vile). Resistance can be granted through natural abilities or the use of powers, talent features, and class specialties. If you are subject to an effect that deals multiple damage types, you must have Resistance to both damage types to gain the benefit.

If a creature has both Damage Reduction and Damage Resistance to the same energy type, the Reduction is applied first, before the 50% Resistance applies.

Damage Resistance Examples
  • You are subject to a Cold spell, but you have Cold Resistance. The attack deals 52 points of damage, which you reduce to 26 (52 x 50% = 26).
  • You are hit with a mundane club, but you have Resistance to Non-magical weapons. The attack deals 24 points of damage, which you reduce to 12 (24 x 50% = 12).
  • You are subject to Holy damage, but have both Holy Damage Reduction 10 and Holy Resistance. The attack deals 73 points of damage. The Damage Reduction applies first, reducing the damage to 63 points. Then you apply your Resistance, reducing the final damage to 31 points (73 - 10 = 63 x 50% = 31, rounded down).
