Characteristics

Animated Statues can appear in any form a statue can be made in, as they are almost always constructed through magical means. They can be made of wood, stone, clay, metals, even gems and glass. These constructs almost always appear as normal statues, often detailed in the style of the regions in which they are found. Once they animate, however, they are often accompanied by an internal magical glow emanating from within the seams of their construction, betraying their magical nature.

History

Animated statues almost always have a creator, either Divine or Eldritch in nature. Wizards often use these magical creations as guardians, usually set to protect a certain area within their domain. Some Statues have a Divine origin, created by powerful clerics and even gods. Animated Statues have many times been confused with golems due to their similar appearance, causing more powerful adventurers to avoid confrontation with them, despite these constructs not being nearly as powerful as their magical cousins.

Culture

As mindless automatons, Animated Statues have no culture, however they are often given artistic detail highlighting the style of their creator or environment. A rare case or two exists of such beings gaining sentience due to strange magical rituals involving living souls being implanted within. From that point those creatures eventually developed their own cultural preferences based on their life experiences.
