Description The Chimera’s mixture of animal characteristics and foul temperament make it a dangerous adversary. It can attack a single victim viciously with various bites and rakes of its sharp talons, and it can also breath a blast of energy from the mouth of the Dragon head, depending on the color of the dragon. It will typically attack by swooping down on its prey, each head attempting to take a bite out of its food while the body rakes at the target, and will resort to its breath weapon when desperate, or if the meal attempts to flee.

Chimera Characteristics

The Chimera is a large four-legged beast of a magical nature. It has three heads, each of a different animal: Goat, Lion, and Dragon. Its skin is a combination of thick, furry hide and reptilian scales ranging from yellow, to brown, and into dark green in random blotches around its muscular, hulking frame. It also has the wings of a dragon, appearing as an amalgam of many different creatures. This monstrosity can hunt in the air or on the ground, although it is possessed of a limited intelligence, and only hunts to meet its needs. It can speak in Draconic, but rarely does so do to its general lack of understanding beyond eating and hunting. A Chimera weighs about 4000 pounds, stands about 5 feet tall at the shoulder and is roughly 10 feet in length.

Culture

These magical beasts are solitary creatures, and they lay but one or two mottled eggs in their lifetime. They have a habit of caring for these eggs in two separate locations, as Chimera young will usually attack the first thing they see upon breaking out of their shells. An adult Chimera prefers to dwell in large caves near forested areas or tall mountains that contain wild life it can ambush from above. While being powerful, they are lazy, stupid creatures and will often seek the easiest path to sustenance and safety. Chimera typically do not live together, growing more mean spirited as time passes. By the time they reach adolescence, two Chimera living near each other will either go their separate ways, or kill one another fighting over their territory

History

Its appearance would almost mandate that Eldritch magic played a role in the creation of the Chimera, and any researcher who dove deep enough would find this to be mostly true. The creature came about in an unlikely circumstance, where three creatures found themselves in a life or death battle against each other. The Goat and Lion chose to team up on the young Dragon and managed to overtake it briefly enough for the wizard who had driven them there to seize upon the opportunity he had created. He cast a Polymorph Spell the moment the three creatures leapt towards one another in a final clash, and the resulting abomination was the first Chimera. The wizard, whose name most have forgotten, swore up and down that he was only aiming for the Dragon.
