Ettin Characteristics

Ettins share a bloodline with giants, but the similarities mostly end there. Ettins have two heads that each feature the physical traits of Goblins, Orcs, and Giants, and even their language is a smattering of the three. The two heads act independently, but they control their body mostly as one being, except when provoked into argument with each other. Ettins are stupid, and quick to anger. Due to being about 13 feet tall and upwards of 5,000 pounds, these monsters rarely run into creatures that can retaliate against their behavior. They are also evil creatures, delighting in the suffering of weaker beings, and will often assault other humanoids just to watch them suffer.

Culture

Ettins are for the most part, isolationists, and do not prefer the company of other creatures. This nature is compounded by the fact that a single Ettin can have a conversation with itself and is never truly alone. On occasion, Ettins will join forces to either mate or attack a locale that is a bit beyond just one of them. These meetings are always temporary, however, and end as soon as the goal is accomplished. They are selfish brutes that only truly enjoy hurting others. They don’t even have much desire for material wealth but collect it anyways since it has trade value to other creatures.

History

Ettins are notorious in legend for acts such as: plaguing a small countryside and attacking travelers, harassing a nearby town and demanding payment and food from its inhabitants, and allying with armies of greenbloods and some other giants for quick, temporary gain through conquest. Many believe that Ettins are the product of a magical experiment gone wrong, sharing too many characteristics of other races to be an accident of birth. This may be true, but unfortunately very few scholars or sages are willing to get close enough to one of these monsters to learn the truth.
