Invisible Stalker Characteristics

The Invisible Stalker is a creature native to the Elemental Plane of Air. It is perpetually invisible, as its name would suggest, and when seen by magic spells that pierce such concealment, it appears as an amorphous cloud of swirling energy. The creature is large, but completely weightless. It can alter its amorphous form to take on the shape of a humanoid or beast, but this does not affect any of its abilities. Unlike true Elementals, the Invisible Stalker makes very little noise, and can be as silent as it desires in addition to undetectable.

Culture

While being native to the Plane of Air, Invisible Stalkers do not appear to interact with other elementals regularly, or even other Invisible Stalkers, for that matter. All observation of their behavior (of which there is little for obvious reasons) would indicate that they prefer to remain solitary, only lashing out at targets when they feel their safety is threatened. They are known to be nomadic and enjoy wandering freely from place to place on any plane they inhabit, although they prefer to stay away from cramped locales such as small caves and tunnels.

History

Most believe the Invisible Stalker to be comprised of sentient elemental energy given form by wizardly magics, given how easily they seem to be manipulated by Eldritch casters. However, they were once true elementals. How they developed their constant invisibility and separated themselves from their root ecology is a bit of mystery, but much like on the material plane, all creatures must adapt in wild environs in order to survive. It is quite possible that in order to defend against the predatory nature of some of the more chaotic forces on their plane of existence, these beings learned how to adapt their properties into a defensive cloak, forever altering their own makeup.
