Mining represents the ability to recognize and retrieve precious stones, gems and ores that are buried in the earth. A character trained in mining can identify and excavate these resources without damaging the material. Mining also includes knowledge of purification methods, such as smelting and acid parting. Mining lore includes knowledge of well known mines, the ability to determine the best method for extracting a particular good, and the best markets for a particular mined good.
Common Uses of the Mining Skill
- Identification precious stones, gems, and ores (especially in their unrefined form)
- Successfully remove raw materials from the environment without damaging them
- Determine the value of mined materials
- Determine what materials may be mined from a specific location.
- Determine the best extraction and refinement method for a particular good
