"They say the Raging River is the wrath of the spirits of the waters we've wronged. Drink without paying homage and you invite their anger into your very belly. A torrent within, to remind you of the torrent you took so lightly."
——Faelin, a Riverfolk shaman

Description

Dysentery, often called the "Raging River," is a foul affliction that strikes fear in the hearts of both commoners and nobles alike. The victim's insides seem to wage war upon themselves, causing severe stomach pains and an uncontrollable flow of tainted water from the bowels. It's as if a malicious entity takes hold of the gut, turning one's innards into turbulent waters. The plagued often become so weak from the constant purge that they are reduced to frail husks, too feeble to stand. The putrid scent of decay seems to cling to those unfortunate enough to be seized by the Raging River, and they are oft shunned for fear of its spread.

Typical Exposure

The bane of Dysentery typically assails those who consume impure water or food. It’s whispered that sinister spirits of unclean rivers or swamps can lay a curse upon the water, and any soul who drinks from it will be made to bear the wrath of the Raging River. The afflicted are known to pollute the very waters they touch; therefore, it is believed to be easily passed through a community if not contained. Traveling groups are especially wary of it, as one afflicted traveler can bring the curse upon the whole caravan.
