Gambeson
Gambesons are thickly padded, quilted jackets that can be worn as light armor. Their primary purpose, however, is to serve as a protective coat to be worn underneath heavier armor such as chain mail or plate armor, as the interlocking plates can harm a lightly dressed wearer without sufficient padding.
