Description

Shatter Gut is created by crushing Silica, then mixing it with the heated slime of a Gelatinous Cube. The result is a viscous and grainy gel that is translucent and difficult to see when placed into food or dark beverages. Depending on the type of food, a consumer might not even notice a change in texture. Silica is one of the few compounds that is not easily dissolved by the slime of a Gelatinous cube, allowing the mixture to persist over a long period of time. Eating Shatter Gut will, as the name suggests, slowly eat away at the subjects stomach lining. If enough is eaten, it can cause massive internal bleeding, killing the victim from the inside out. Possibly the most horrific nature of this unnatural toxin is that if left alone inside a victim, the remaining matter from the Gelatinous Cube can eventually consume enough of the creature's body to build back to its full form.

Lore

Shatter Gut was first mislabeled intentionally as a hot new drug on the poverty stricken streets, with the intent of clearing out the local populace. Horribly enough, this was administered by the prominent church of the city, the corrupted clergy deciding it would be better to wipe the slate clean than continue to heal the endless stream of sick and wounded. This undertaking backfired on them, however, as the toxin spread much more quickly than they had anticipated. Being unaware that the Gelatinous Cube they had used retained some of its instinct, the streets were soon overrun by gelatinous masses laden with disheveled corpses threatening to feed their way into the wealthier districts. The resulting chaos was eventually met with aid from another church from a nearby city. Shortly after, the priesthood was exposed for its horrendous actions by a group of adventurers who came to aid in the struggle, and the remnants were judged and executed by the neighboring priests.
