Deafened

The world goes silent around you and you can no longer hear. This includes the loss of any special hearing senses such as Blindsense. You are subject to the following effects:

  • You fail all Listen checks.
  • All creatures are granted Superior Concealment (Hearing) from your auditory sense (which only causes penalties for creatures that cannot readily perceive with another sense).
  • You suffer a penalty to your Awareness equal to your Skill Rank in Listen and automatically fail checks based purely on auditory phenomena.
  • You lose any bonuses granted by superior hearing.
  • You have a 10% chance of Verbal Cast Failure from potentially mispronouncing the cast.

While Deafened, you must rely on your other senses. For most creatures, this does not affect their ability to make attacks and target creatures, provided they still have other means of perceiving (such as sight). If a creature relies primarily on its auditory sense to target creatures (such as creatures with Blindsense) it may be unable to target opponents within either already knowing their location (based on their previous location or where an attack came from), to locate them using another Sensory Skill, or to roll a d8 to determine a random direction (GM discretion). See Locating Creatures with Concealment for more details.

Mob Monsters

If the target relies primarily on their auditory sense to target and attack creatures, then the target is Incapacitated.
