Destiny Points

Destiny Points are given as awards to your character throughout an adventure, either as a Story Award or upon the completion of events related to a character specific story arc or Destiny. Granting Destiny Points is up to the GM's discretion, but you will typically gain one approximately every 2 levels (and first level characters always start with 2 Destiny points to begin with).

Spending Destiny Points

Destiny Points are most typically used to purchase Talents which grant special abilities that can be used to distinguish your character. Talents are used to differentiate characters of the same class from one another, which each character choosing a unique area of focus. You can spend a maximum number of Destiny Points on talents equal to [½ Level + 2].

Destiny points can also be used during an adventure to change your character's destiny, usually allowing your character to cheat death or a similarly dismal fate. When you choose to use a Destiny point to save your character in this way, the GM ultimately decides the manner in which your character's destiny is changed. The outcome may not be wholly beneficial to your character, but it will be shaped to fit the situation and the flavor of the story, while still allowing your character to be saved from a deadly situation.

Examples
  • Dorac suffers a Lethal Injury that will cause his imminent death. Instead of dying, Dorac spends a Destiny Point to change his fate. The GM decides then that instead of of making the killing blow, his Bugbear opponents decide to take him captive. Dorac next wakes up within the Bugbear camp, tied up, and stripped of all his gear. It is up to Dorac to figure out how to escape.
  • Athosia was hit by a Finger of Death spell and has run out of time to save from the Marked for Death condition. Athosia would normally die at this point, but she decides to spend a Destiny Point to save herself from death. The GM decides to have her goddess, Odeen, intervene and save her life. The goddesses gift however, does not come without a price. Odeen has a task for Athosia to perform, something that may be even more dangerous than the quest she is currently on.
  • Mortimer falls into a great chasm, to what will surely be his death. Instead of dying, Mortimer decides to spend a Destiny Point to save his fate. The GM decides that Mortimer is lucky enough to strike several trees on the way down, which serve to help break his fall, but he sustains heavy injuries on the way (multiple severe injuries). The injuries will make the journey out of the chasm exceedingly difficult, but at least he's alive.
