"This was my grandfather’s ‘magic’ cloak. He said he used to be an adventurer himself, but I never believed him. After a few years mucking through dungeons and surviving more than my share of deadly magic and unnatural monsters, I definitely believe him now!"
——Sander Buckhollow, veteran adventurer

Description

These cloaks can come in a variety of fashions, but they share a few common traits: A warding symbol placed somewhere on the cloak in gold or silver trimming, and the cloth itself shimmers with a small bit of magical energy when light is reflected upon it. When an effect tries to harm the wearer, that shimmer becomes a bright shine for just a moment as the magic of the cloak attempts to ward off the assault.

Lore

The Cloak of Protection is made by warding clerics that worship gods of protection. Each one therefore bears a specific decorative style common to the church that made it. Many experienced adventurers own such cloaks, and it has become common practice for these people to “compare cloaks” upon meeting one another, showing off the intricacies and comparing magical strength as a matter of trivial bragging rights, mostly for fun and jest.
