Portable Hole

Portable Hole
Magic Item [Very Rare, Extra-dimensional]
Rank: 4 (Potency 40)
Description: A portable hole is a circle of cloth, 10ft in diameter, spun from the webs of a phase spider interwoven with strands of ether and beams of starlight. When not in use, the cloth can be folded up to be as small as a pocket handkerchief.
Properties
When spread upon any surface the portable hole opens to a 10ft deep extra-dimensional space in which any items that fit within the space may be stored. When the cloth is picked up, the entrance to the extra-dimensional space disappears and is no longer accessible (though any items placed inside may be retrieved the next time the portable hole is used). Creatures can enter the space, but once the cloth is picked up there is only enough air for a creature to survive about 1 phase.
Allocation: None
Aura: Moderate Conjuration
"When constructing a portable hole, always remember to carry the two. It could save your life."

Description

The Portable Hole is quite possibly one of the most unusual, useful and potentially powerful magical creations found on the material plane. It is a non dimensional space that can fit in the palm of the hand, and fold out to the size of a large, expansive pit. It is made of a soft black material, always weightless. A creative individual could use this item to great effect in a multitude of situations, due to the item's amazing ability to create a hole on virtually any surface. As it is a non dimensional space, however, anyone using it should exercise caution in applying its powers on another magical effect that involves dimensional manipulation...

Lore

This extraordinary dimensional cloth was first discovered by accident. An ambitious mage was simply looking to fashion for himself a cloak that would allow him to travel between dimensions with ease. A mistake in his calculations instead found him trapped inside his own cape after donning it! Fortunately his apprentice was able to rescue him before he suffocated inside the folds of the device. Soon after they decided that the strange anomaly would serve better as a tool rather than a piece of clothing.
