Geas
Geas
Potency: 35
Curse Intensity: 1d6 + Ritual Caster Rank, See Curses
Prerequisites: Divine or Eldritch Rank 6
Components: Magic Essence [Value: 20gp], a liquor or spirit, and a contract outlining the task or action you wish the target to perform.
Focus: An hourglass.
Cost: 1 Karma, 5 Resolve Burn
Prep Time: 2 phases
Cast Time: 1 moment
Description: The Geas places a magical command on the target, requiring it to carry out a service, task or quest. Alternatively, the Geas can prevent a creature from completing an action.
Victim Considerations: The victim must be present to perform this curse.
Target: One Living Creature
Effect: You burn the contract to ash. Some of the ash is placed within the hourglass, while the rest is used within an elixir prepared of liquor, Magic Essence, and the ashen remains of the contract. The target must then be made to drink the Elixir (or otherwise absorb the fluid). After approximately 2 phases, giving the Elixir time to spread through the target's system, you begin the incantation to activate the Elixir. Once completed, the target is compelled to complete the task as written in the contract.
As the creature works to complete the task, its progress towards its goal is measured on the hourglass. If the task is more open-ended, its progress through the duration of the curse is measured in the hourglass.
If the intensity of your curse prevents you from exerting enough influence to compel the task (refer to the curse's level of effect below), the curse fails.
Minor Curse: (Intensity: 1-5, Duration: 3 Days): You compel the target to complete some mundane or simple task, such as manual labor, gathering information on someone, or deserting a guard post. You cannot compel the target to complete a task that will bring harm to itself or others, even if it is simple (such as "poison the water supply"). Additionally, you cannot compel the target to complete a task that would seem grotesque or extreme (such as "slaughter all of your livestock"). The target may attempt to fight the compulsion, but its maximum morale is reduced by 1 as long as it does so. The curse does not grant the target any special skills that may be required to complete the task, but it will attempt the task to the best of its ability. If the creature completes the task before the curse's duration is spent, the curse ends (though tasks may have an indeterminate or open end).
Lesser Curse: (Intensity: 6-10, Duration: 1 month): As above, except you can compel the target to complete a more complex task, such as gathering materials from a far off locale or building an object or structure according to your instructions. The task cannot bring them into a situation that is potentially dangerous, such as venturing out into the troll ridden forest. If the target attempts to fight the compulsion, its maximum morale is reduced by 2 as long as it does so.
Moderate Curse: (Intensity: 11-20, Duration: 1 year): As above, except you can compel the target to undertake a task or quest that is both far-reaching and potentially dangerous. If that target attempts to fight the compulsion its maximum morale is reduced by 3 as long as it does so.
Greater Curse: (Intensity: 21+, Duration: Permanent): As above, except you can compel the target to perform any task, even one that is extreme or life-threatening (but not suicidal). If the target attempts to fight the compulsion, its maximum morale is reduced by 4 as long as it does so.
Breaking the Curse: Breaking the hourglass ends the curse. Additionally, this curse can be removed with a successful Limited Wish, Miracle, or Wish. A minor or lesser effect can be removed with a Break Enchantment.
