Treasure
Treasure represents any physical object of value to a character. As a Gamemaster, sometimes you will want to hand out specific treasure to the Player Characters. Other times, you will want to be able to randomly determine what a particular opponent is carrying, or what a PC finds. The following Base Treasure Tables serve as a starting point for determining random treasure, and are broken up into four different types of goods: Valuables, Baubles, Arcane, and Goods.
Many creatures will carry valuables, which consist mostly of coins and similar cash value items. Baubles are also carried by a variety of creatures, and contains items such as gems, jewelry, and art. Arcane goods are typically carried by those trained in the magical arts and consists of components, scrolls, trinkets, and magic items. Goods represent more material things, such as equipment, provisions, and livestock.
How to Use These Tables
Each of the tables below allows you to roll 1d10 to randomly determine the type of treasure carried by a creature or found within a domicile. For example, a Human Guard may have Valuables A2. This indicates that you would roll 1d10 on the Valuables Table, column A. The 2 suggests that the Valuables found are of Rank 2, and will be important when looking at subsequent tables. So if you roll an 8 through 10 on the d10, you would continue to the coins table and roll on the Rank 2 column (Junk does not have a rank).
A Wizard Apprentice, on the other hand, may have Valuables B2 and Arcane A2. In this case, you would roll for the Valuables as above, but use the B column instead. Additionally, you would roll on the Arcane Table (column A), then proceed to any subsequent tables and roll on the Rank 2 column (if applicable).
Whenever you roll a result that represents multiple treasures (such as Coins x 3 or Components x 2), this suggests that you should roll twice on the subsequent table. Likewise, getting a result of Coins + Junk, indicates that you would roll on both the Coins table and the Junk table.
Some creatures may skip these base treasure tables entirely, and simply give Gems 4 or Scrolls 3. The former indicates rolling for the Rank 4 column on the Gems table, while the latter indicates rolling for the Rank 3 column on the Scrolls table.
