Revenant

"To some I am a mockery of life, to others I am the pinnacle of mortal achievement, robbing the gods of their singular ownership of immortality. Life is all a matter of perspective, and I would know, I’ve lived enough lifetimes to learn it."
——Hak’Thul, former Chieftain of the Ancient Mannonites, and Revenant

Whether the Revenant was gifted with immortality by a powerful benefactor, or the unintended consequence of restoration through divine energy is unknown by most. Every Revenant, however, understands the truth. A Revenant was formerly a mortal who had died before their time, and was restored by divine magic. Unlike the majority of those who have experienced such a miracle, however, the Revenant saw the power of eternal life amidst the transition from death to rebirth, and selfishly stole a small piece of it before they returned, consuming it into their mortal shell. Now, no matter how severe the earthly punishment, they cannot die or age. The one caveat to this is if they are stricken down by pure divine power, the energy that they stole will not help them, and they will face death as mortals once again. For this reason, most Revenants seek to avoid dealings with the gods and their powerful servants whenever possible.

Revenant

The Revenant cannot be truly killed, unless destroyed by Holy or Unholy magic. Any other attempt proves useless, and they will always return shortly after their bodies are decimated. They also no longer age, their bodies retaining their place in time permanently. This twisted gift also makes it impossible for them to die through lack of nourishment, their bodies wasting away to almost nothing if they do not eat or drink, yet somehow remaining intact.

Prerequisites

  • You must have died, and are brought back to life by deific forces.
  • Cost: 1 Destiny point

Features

♦ Deathless
When you die, you revive after 1 phase has passed. This occurs regardless of the cause of death, be it from hitpoint damage, a death effect, or injury. At the end of the phase, all Fatal injuries are removed and you may burn Stamina to regain hitpoints as normal. If you cannot burn Stamina to regain hitpoints, you will revive after an Extended Rest with all hitpoints and energy restored (as normal). This effect is bypassed if you are killed by alignment based damage (i.e. Holy, Vile, Entropic, or Entaxic).
♦ Ageless
You no longer age.
♦ Wasteless
You cannot die from starvation, dehydration, suffocation, or similar effects. Though you will not die from these conditions, you will suffer the other bodily effects of each, such as extreme weight loss and stomach cramps from starvation or the burning lungs of suffocation.
