A Giant Cave Lizard can weigh up to 1,000 lbs. and is about 14 feet in length from snout to tail. They prefer cooler, dark environments, and track prey largely by their sense of smell. Their reptilian nature makes them able to function effectively in water as well as on land. Due to their size, they are omnivorous, preferring large insects, but are willing to eat vegetation and other animals if necessary to survive. Like most animals, they are somewhat territorial and will attack if the safety of their lair is threatened. They prefer to lie in wait, camouflaging themselves against the stone and attacking when the invaders appear to have dropped their guard.
