Grind black vitriol beneath a Circle of Wind until it powders like ash. Heat it gently with distilled vinegar while the Rune of Yr is etched into the vessel’s rim. Add saltpeter slowly, never breaking the rhythm of the stir, until the mixture begins to fizz. Carefully fold in powdered quicklime while the fumes are bound by a lattice of silver wire. Once the liquid clears to a pale smoke, decant into a glass flask inscribed with the sigil of restraint.
Ingredients: Black Vitriol (rare, 10 gp), Saltpeter (rare, 10 gp), Quicklime (common, 1 cp), Distilled Vinegar (common, 5 sp), Glass Flask (common, 5 sp)

Description

Aqua Fortis is a pale, smoking liquid with a sharp, biting scent. It burns flesh readily but is most infamous for tarnishing silver and copper, leaving blackened streaks that mark its victims.

Lore

Once used by alchemists to test the purity of silver, Aqua Fortis earned its place on the battlefield as a weapon feared by armored soldiers. Tales are told of coin hoards ruined by a single flask, and of assassins who smuggled vials to dissolve seals and locks without a sound. Its name is whispered in both workshops and war camps alike.
