"Don't worry about Frazzlebeard, he may seem out of it, but I've never seen him mess up a spell. No, that wasn't originally his name, we only started calling him that after he learned how to brew what he called 'Eldritch Opiate'."

Description

Opium Poppy is a plant that produces a dried latex many refer to as Opium Tears. The Plant itself appears as a stem with several leaves, topped with a round bulb filled with this latex. The latex contains the analgesic alkaloid morphine, a chemical that can be used to produce other potent drugs for abuse or medical treatment. Opium is an addictive substance, and the more it is used, the more likely a consumer is to fall prey to the dangerous effects of a high dosage.

Lore

Opium has caused a number of mixed opinions over its use throughout history. An initial dose is rarely ever fatal, and in fact can be used as an anesthetic or relaxant for medical treatment. Probably the issue many have with it relates to its addictive properties, as many patients benefiting from the use of Opium continue using it well after treatment is necessary, sometimes to a point of taking lethal doses. Its legality among civilization is largely subject to the needs and discipline of its people. Some prefer it remain completely legal so that it can be used for its beneficial properties, allowing the citizenry the personal responsibility to make good choices. Some Races can regularly enjoy opium with few ill side effects, such as Dwarves and Halflings, while Humans, Elves, and most Greenskins tend to be more susceptible to its harmful aspects.
