Energy Damage

Some creatures and effects can deal damage to your Stamina and Resolve pools, similarly to how damage is applied to Hitpoints. There are three primary kinds of Energy Damage: Spend, Burn, and Drain, which are described in more detail below. While some effects will specify whether the damage applies to Stamina (Stamina Damage) or Resolve (Resolve Damage), other effects will simple deal "Energy Damage" allowing the target to choose from which Energy pool the damage is taken (or how it will be split among both).

When you suffer Energy Damage, the amount of damage suffered is removed from your current Energy pool (for either Stamina or Resolve). If Energy Damage reduces your current Energy (for either Stamina or Resolve) to 0, you fall Unconscious until your energy can be restored above 0 (through resting or the use of specific abilities). When your pool has been reduced to 0, each additional point of Energy Damage deals Necrotic damage equal to your Healing Value.

Energy Damage (Spent)

As its name suggests, Energy Damage (Spent) forces you to spend Energy of the appropriate type. This damage may be restored with the rest of your spent energy upon taking a Short Rest.

Simple Monsters: Each 2 points of Energy Damage (Spent) removes one of its Action Points for its next turn.
Complex Monsters: Each application of Energy Damage (Spent) removes one use of its "Short Rest" abilities.
Legendary Monsters: Energy Damage (Spent) deals Necrotic damage (or a different damage type, if more appropriate) to the target equal to [5 x Energy Damage].

Energy Damage (Burn)

Energy Damage (Burn) forces you to Burn Energy of the appropriate type. This damage may be restored with the rest of your burnt and spent energy upon taking a Extended Rest.

Simple Monsters: Each 2 points of Energy Damage (Burn) removes one of its Action Points for its next turn.
Complex Monsters: Each application of Energy Damage (Burn) removes one use of its "Extended Rest" abilities (or Short Rest abilities if no uses of Extended Rest remain).
Legendary Monsters: Energy Damage (Burn) deals Necrotic damage (or a different damage type, if more appropriate) to the target equal to [10 x Energy Damage].

Energy Damage (Drain)

Energy Damage (Drain) causes a long-lasting loss of energy that cannot be recovered by Resting. Generally speaking, Energy Damage (Drain) permanently removes a creatures energy, affecting the creatures Current and Maximum energy pools. Some magical abilities, such as the Restoration ritual, can restore energy that has been drained.

Simple Monsters: Each 2 points of Energy Drain permanently removes one of its Action Points.
Complex Monsters: Each application of Energy Damage (Drain) permanently removes one use of its "Extended Rest" abilities (or Short Rest abilities if no uses of Extended Rest remain).
Legendary Monsters: Energy Damage (Drain) deals Necrotic damage (or a different damage type, if more appropriate) to the target equal to [20 x Energy Damage].

Permanent Energy Loss

Some effects cause the permanent loss of energy, which cannot be restored in any way (not even through the use of a Restoration ritual). These kinds of losses usually occur from the performance of powerful and binding magics, such as creating Magic Items, binding Familiars, or from other extremely powerful effects.
