Energy
The Two types of Energy, known as Stamina and Resolve, serve as gauges of how much stress you can endure from performing strenuous feats. Losing Stamina represents a strain on your physical body, while losing Resolve represents a strain on your mental faculties. This Energy score is a simplified combination of Stamina and Resolve, which such a creature pulling from this single Energy score to fuel all abilities.
Spending Energy
Many powers and abilities have an Energy cost, requiring you to spend Stamina or Resolve (determined by the power). To pay this cost, simply deduct the Energy requirement from your total value. This energy is not spent permanently, but can be recovered by taking a Short Rest.
If either your Stamina or Resolve are reduced to zero or less, you are knocked Unconscious. Additionally, for each point of Stamina or Resolve below zero, you suffer your Healing Value in damage. When you are knocked unconscious from a loss of Stamina or Resolve, you will not wake until after you've taken an Extended Rest.
Burning Energy
Some particularly strong (or long lasting) power and abilities require you to Burn Energy. Burnt Energy is similar to spent energy, except that Burnt Energy cannot be replenished at the end of a short rest. Burnt Energy is instead recovered at the end of an Extended Rest.
Energy may also be burnt in order to regain resources, usually during a Short Rest. Stamina is burnt to restore spent Stamina and lost Hitpoints. Resolve if burnt to restore Spent Resolve and lost Morale. Certain high-caliber powers and abilities also requires you to Burn Stamina or Resolve as part of the cost of the power.
Energy Allocation
Many Magic Items, Rituals, and some powers require you to Allocate energy for them to function. Some Magic Items, Rituals, and Powers require a constant supply of energy to wield or maintain them. Whenever you equip an item or use a power that has an Energy Allocation, that value of Stamina and/or Resolve is deducted from your maximum and current values and may not be regained until you stop allocating energy to them. Energy that is no longer allocated is treated as Burned and may be recovered with an extended rest.
Magic Items that require allocation don't give their owners a choice. Allocation is not necessary when a magic item is stowed away in a pack or container. However, if an item is removed from a pack or container for the purpose of use, your current Energy values are immediately reduced by the Allocation amount, whether you want them to be or not.
Forceful Loss of Energy
It is possible to lose Stamina or Resolve forcefully, through a Monster attack or hostile spell. Energy Damage and Drain are the most common ways to forcefully lose Energy, though other methods are possible.
Recovering Energy
Energy can be recovered in a variety ways, the most common of which is by Resting. You can never recover more Resolve or Stamina than your maximum total. Any additional recovered points are lost.
