Feats
Feats represent small benefits used to enhance your character. There are many feats to choose from and they have widely varied effects. Some feats adjust your character's core statistics, granting a feat bonus to skills checks, defenses, damage, saving throws, weapon capabilities, casting abilities, and much more. Other feats grant feat bonuses in specific circumstances, such as when your character makes a Critical Strike or when he falls from a certain height. Still other feats augment specific powers or grant your character new abilities (such as proficiency with a weapon or armor).
Some feats are chained together, requiring a character to have the prior feat before taking later versions of the feat. For example, Improved Stamina must be taken before Greater Stamina (each of which increase your character's Stamina total). Feats may have other prerequisites as well, including Racial or Class features, Philosophy Ranks, Skill Ranks, or Armor and Weapon proficiency.
Choosing feats is like choosing powers: find feats that are interesting to you or fit your character concept. If you would like your character to be adept at a particular skill, attempt to find a feat that enhances that skill. If your character is skilled with a weapon, consider a feat that improves weapon capabilities. And if your character casts Eldritch Spells or Divine Prayers, consider a feat that increases the damage or potency of your cast powers. You can browse feats by visiting the Feats page.
Your first level character gains 1 Feat (plus any bonus feats granted as Racial or Class features). Once you have determined your character's feat, you can record it in the Feat section of the character sheet. If the feat grants a feat bonus to one of your character's statistics, you can enter that feat bonus into the "Misc" box next to that statistic. Depending on the feat you choose, you may have to go back and make adjustments to calculations that you have already completed, such as skill ranks, patience, or speed. If your feat applies to a statistic that has yet to be calculated, such as saving throws or damage, make a note to refer back to your feat when you calculate these stats later.
