"He was a fury on that forlorn plane, launching devastation across the enemy ranks. He was on our side, under our banner, yet somehow I felt that he was not concerned with his comrades in the least. It was his smile that gave it away, grinning with a wide eyed stare that did not blink. His teeth, most of all......they seemed too long.....and jagged."
——Clauster Vanderhault, Royal Mage of the King Reagent's Battalion

Description

This weapon is both magnificent and terrible to behold. It radiates with a powerful necromantic aura when magically detected, although this pales in comparison to the bow's physical appearance. It is constructed of a sickly pale yellow ivory, hard as steel and twice as thick as a normal bow of its type. It is covered in grotesque carvings of various skeletal creatures, the mightiest of which is a miniature skeletal dragon's maw at the center, guarding the grip. Listening closely, sounds of crunching, grinding bones and screams barely audible can be heard from its mouth. Despite the size and ornamentation, the bow weighs only 1 lb and is extremely comfortable to hold. The bow is always cool to the touch, regardless of surrounding temperatures.

Lore

Not quite common knowledge, this bow was first constructed by an often angry necromancer of small renown and eccentricity who preferred to dispose of his failed experiments and faulty minions "The Old Fashioned Way". Given when it first began gaining notoriety, it was suspected that the necromancer had not ever been aware of the true power he had imbued into the weapon. Some suggest that its misuse over time was exactly what he had intended and his death was merely a hoax, the mage staging his demise so unwary heroes would take up the weapon and lead themselves to ruin.

In any case the weapon first gained notoriety in the hands of a group of adventurers who had supposedly slain the necromancer. One among them was a skilled elven archer, naturally drawn to the mighty weapon. The bow gave him the ability to single-handedly lay waste to entire units of enemies, and he became renowned throughout the land as a mighty warrior. As time passed, however, the marksman grew darker in personality, his body becoming frail and sickly. He shunned all contact with other mortal races and developed strange deformities in his bones. Eventually, he disappeared all together, his location unknown. A similar story occurred with other unfortunate adventurers who gained possession of the weapon, totaling 6 different owners over the last 50 years. Some say the bow is cursed, others believe it simply attracts undead presences to the wielder. Most item seekers fear the weapon, although there are a few who still crave power regardless of the price....
