"At last! AT LONG LAST! I will bring the king his head and I shall finally be reinst......oh hello there.....my old blade! By the gods, what have they done to you?!"
——Bander Blackwater, former Captain of the Guard of the Northern Greatwood Fort

Description

This Great Sword is larger than normal, about 2 inches wider and one foot longer than one of standard size, and weighs an extra 5 lbs. The metal of the blade has a dark greenish hue, but the blade itself is entangled in mossy, plant-like flesh that slowly writhes along the length of the blade and wraps tightly around the handle, giving it an extremely stable, if a bit unnerving, grip. When wielded, the flesh extends around the wielder's hands, melding with it and guiding them to strike with cruel accuracy. Upon striking the blade attempts to tear at its victim mercilessly just as a troll would, sprouting small claws and fangs from the flesh that encapsulates the sword. The blade radiates a weak aura of evil.

Lore

This blade, strangely enough, was once a plain magical Great Sword wielded by a retired captain forced into obscurity from his failure to protect a a strategic outpost from an onslaught of trolls. The Troll leader took the blade and reforged it in his own blood with the aid of several witches, granting it unusual powers. The Troll leader was eventually slain by the same captain five years later, upon which the sword was reclaimed. Since then, however, the original owner mysteriously disappeared, along with the sword. Some believe that the weapon's magic was far too foul and it corrupted him, turning him into the very creature that ended his career in the first place. This is of course, is purely speculation.
