Ankhegs are large, predatory insects that attack helpless living creatures with hit and run tactics from underground. They burrow underneath their prey about 5 to 10 feet, able to sense vibrations in the earth with their antennae. Once a creature moves over their position, they shoot out of the ground and attempt to bite the target. If they do, they then sink their mandibles in further, grabbing them and pulling them down into the tunnel to consume them. If they are damaged after they have grabbed a victim, they are intelligent enough to retreat down the tunnel to an area of safety to continue feeding.
