Potency
Potency represents the relative strength of a magical (or supernatural) power or ability versus another. Whenever there is an interaction that requires one ability to be compared to another, an Opposed Potency Check is made. Some examples of situations that require a potency check include:
- Attempting to overcome an area of Silence
- Attempting to overcome an area of Anti-Magic
- Dispelling a power or effect
- Magic Resistance
- Interactions between Opposing Powers
Making a Potency Check
When you are required to make a potency check (whether it is Opposed to another creature's check or a set number), roll the die and bonus indicated by the power (if any). The potency bonus is listed in the "Potency" line of the power and modified by any other bonuses you may have such as those granted by feats, items, etc. Typically, Potency is either a flat number (Rituals) or a die added to a Philosophy Rank. Many powers and abilities do not have a potency and are immune to the affects of abilities that require a potency check.
