Scrolls

Magic scrolls contain the power of a single Spell, Prayer, or similar ability stored within them. All scrolls have a Rank, determined at the time of creation, that determines which augments are imbued within the scroll (i.e. only free and non-Mastered augments can be placed into scrolls).

To use a scroll, you must have at least one Rank in the Skill relevant to the power contained within the Scroll (i.e. Eldritch Arts for Spell Scrolls, Religious Arts for Prayer Scrolls, etc). To Cast using a scroll, you must read the inscription upon it (equal to the Casting Time of the original power). This casting must be verbal and cannot be removed with a Silent Cast or similar ability. If your Concentration is disrupted while reciting the inscription, your casting is interrupted, but the scroll is not expended. If the power requires a Focus, you must provide it during casting.

When you casting is completed, you must make a check to determine if you are successful in using the scroll. The Difficulty of your check is equal to the difference between the Scroll Rank and your Skill Rank (i.e. [Scroll Rank - your Eldritch Arts or Religious Arts Rank]). If your Skill Rank is equal to or greater than the rank of the Scroll, no check is required. If you succeed the check, the scroll functions as normal and the effect of the power is realized. If you fail, the power fizzles and the scroll is consumed with no effect.

Whether or not you succeed at casting the scroll, you must wait the Recovery Time of the Scroll's power before your next action. If the power requires a Karma cost, you must pay that cost at this time (whether or not you succeed). If the power has an upkeep cost, you must pay it in order to upkeep the power. All other costs associated with the power (including material components) are imbued within the scroll.
