Magic Item [Very Rare]
Type: Jewelry (Ring)
Rank: 4 (Potency 40)
Properties
  • The wearer of this ring can project a shield made of magical force from the ring at will. It can be formed in the shape of any size Shield the wearer desires, and gains all defensive bonuses of the shield chosen. Since it is made of magical force, the shield is weightless and does not have an armor check penalty. The shield may hover before the wearer, leaving both hands free regardless of the shield's size.
  • Alternatively, the wearer can choose to project the shield from the ring and wield it actively like a normal shield, the ring itself serving as a handle of sorts. When wielded in this way, the force shield qualifies for any powers that require a shield. Attacks made with the shield deal Force damage instead of Piercing damage.
  • At the wearer's option, the shield may be equipped with a Shield Spike. Attacks made with the shield spike deal Force damage instead of Piercing damage.

Description

A ring of force Shield appears as a thick, well polished steel band devoid of ornamentation save a small finely cut diamond at the center, shaped like a kite shield. When activated by the will of the wearer, it projects a field of force identical in appearance to any shield the wearer desires. Fine details and embellishments can also be decided by the wearer.

Lore

This marvelous ring was imbued with magical force, the diamond at its center infused with the magic needed to manifest the energy within the ring. Since the force projected from the ring is weightless and can be dismissed or summoned instantly, it is highly sought after by adventurers of all types. Some say that the design came from the mind of a Battle Mage of small renown who at one time was heard to remark upon the subject: “I was truly, truly tired of getting stabbed every time I tried to cast a spell!
