Zombie Characteristics

Zombies come in any shape and size, in the physical guise of their former life. In most cases Zombies are re-animated corpses, usually under the control of a powerful mage or a greater undead. Uncontrolled Zombies are possessed with the impulse to consume living flesh. Zombies rarely show intelligence of any sort. They are usually clad in rotting flesh and the remains of whatever clothes they died in. Zombies do not see as living creatures do, but instead are able to sense living creatures nearby. Any living creature slain by a zombie will rise again as undead himself, doomed to walk the earth in a cursed form until destroyed.

History

Zombies first appeared in recorded history when a desperate and weakened clan of mages began practicing the darker arts. They became an extremely effective tool for conquering neighboring cities, and many foolish leaders employed the services of necromancers to bolster their armies' front lines. Unfortunately, a number of problems arose with the close proximity to decomposing flesh, as well as power struggles between the mage clan and rulers renting their power. The circumstances under which the zombie plague and the mages were gotten rid of before the world sunk into turmoil are unclear, but some ancient texts claim divine intervention. In any case, there are many of the creatures roaming the earth today, some free, some under the control of individual mages. The secret to controlling colossal armies of the things seems to have been lost in time, however, much to the relief of the living.

Culture

Zombies have no culture of their own. They are mindless undead automatons and their only compulsion is to eat the living. On occasion, eccentric mages have been known to dress their undead pets in bizarre clothing to give them a bit more "style"
