Sepia Snake Sigil
Sepia Snake Sigil
Ritual Rank 6 [Glyph]
Prerequisites: Eldritch Rank 5
Potency: 30
Components: Powdered Amber [Uncommon, Value: 50gp] and a Snake Scale
Cost: 6 Resolve Allocation
Cast Time: 1 phase
Duration: Until discharged, or until dismissed, dispelled, or disrupted.
Range: Touch
Aura: Masked [DC 30] (Conjuration)
Target: One piece of writing touched
Effect: You insert the Snake Sigil into a piece of text at least 25 words long. Any creature (other than you) that reads the text containing the symbol, activates the sigil. Simply looking at the sigil will not activate it, it must be read. Once a creature activates the symbol, it makes the following attack:
Trigger: A creature reads the sigil
Target: Triggering Creature
Attack: +10 vs. Reflex
Hit: The target is engulfed in a field of amber and Paralyzed [SE, ST 4d10 vs DEX]. If the target does not save within 10 segments, the target becomes trapped in the amber and is held in Suspended Animation for [1d4 + Eldritch Rank] days (or until the ritual ends, whichever occurs first).
The amber immediately hardens into a dense structure with a Durability of 50. Abilities that deal damage to the structure will typically harm the creature inside, but a Shatter spell will destroy the amber, leaving the creature within unharmed.
The Sigil may be detected with a successful Investigate check [DC 30] or via an ability to detect masked magical auras (such as Reveal Magic). Once detected, the Sigil may be removed magically or with a Trapsmith or Thievery check [DC 35]. If an attempt is made to remove the Sigil, and it fails, the Sigil activates. The sigil may also be removed with an Erase Ritual, which destroys the entire text (an Erase Magical Writing ritual functions normally).
