Deception consists of generating pity, begging, casting blame, and being underestimated. It is used to increases someone’s Doubt in your abilities (see Influence), to convince someone to assist your out of pity or cast blame for events on someone else (see Convince), and to alter how someone regards you on first appearance (i.e. alter the stereotype you apply to).

Note that Deception and lying are different things, and it requires no Deception check to tell a lie successfully. However, Deception is used to defend against Intuition checks that attempt to see through falsehoods (see Detect Deception).

Deception is aligned with Doubt and opposed by Trust and Fear.

Common Uses of the Deception Skill
  • Increase a creature's Doubt Disposition
  • Convince a creature to perform a task or help out of pity, fueled by their doubt.
