Artificers are practiced crafters of all types of magical items . They come from many backgrounds, but usually share a history of some kind of magical training. It is not unheard of for some people to simply be magically literate, and learn to create items through tools and items that can replicate the effects they need. Artificing is an ancient practice, almost as old as magic itself, for when magic first came into prominence, so to did the desire for people without the knack to control it for themselves.

The Artificer is a two stage Talent.

Artificer I

Whomever takes this talent must first master the development of smaller and weaker items. Therefore, they begin their studies working on magical trinkets, learning how to craft them more quickly, and how to refill their energies when they are depleted. Through this practice, they also learn how to use a trinkets energy more efficiently, reducing the chance it will lose it’s charge. Lastly, through their tinkering experimentation, they learn how to craft a familiar for themselves out of magical parts that suits their own personal style.

Features

♦ Reliable Trinkets
Trinkets you wield have a 1 in 8 chance of depleting, instead of a 1 in 6 change (i.e. 1 on 1d8).
♦ Greater Identification
You learn the Identify Ritual (even if you don't meet the prerequisites) and may use it from memory without any material component cost.
♦ Improved Trinket Creation
When Creating Trinkets, you only need 2 successful checks per week (instead of 3) to make progress on the Trinket.
♦ Quickened Recharge
When Recharging Trinkets, you may reduce the time required to complete the process by ½.
♦ Construct Familiar
You gain a Construct Familiar, which is automatically bound to you. See Familiars for more details.

Artificer II

At the final stage of practice, the Artificer learns how to more efficiently create permanent magical items of all types. They can create them in half the time, and perhaps most importantly reduce the energy loss caused by the sealing of their personal power into an item.

Features

♦ Efficient Formulas
When researching the formula to Create a Magic Item, you may complete the research in ½ the time. Additionally, when rolls for the number of ingredients and processes required for the Magic Item, roll twice and take the lesser result.
♦ Efficient Creation
When Creating a Magic Item, you suffer only 1 permanent energy loss (instead of 2), your choice of Stamina or Resolve.
♦ Awakened Construct Familiar
Your construct familiar is upgraded to (or replaced by) an Awakened Construct Familiar. It now has the ability to speak and communicate in a language of your choice and has hitpoints equal to twice your Healing Value (instead of just once). See Familiars for more details.
