The Spellrift Adept is a sublime harmonic between metaphysical energy and arcane power, a master of the invisible forces that govern reality. Trained in the art of harmonizing their Qi with the ethereal currents of magic, these disciples represent a unique melding of martial artistry and mystical acumen. They are not spellcasters in the traditional sense, but their understanding of the arcane allows them to bend magic to their will, shaping the battlefield in subtle yet powerful ways.

To observe a Spellrift Adept in combat is to witness the dance of dual forces in perfect harmony. Their every move is a fluid symphony of Qi and magic, a testament to their unique path. Drawing upon the latent magic in the world around them, they defend against mystical assaults with uncanny precision, turning enemy spells into ephemeral wisps. Yet their mastery extends beyond defense; their allies find their spells heightened, their enchantments more potent, and their defenses strengthened. The adept can absorb hostile magic, transmuting it into raw, pulsating energy before releasing it in a torrent of arcane power. Their connection with magic is a vibrant, living bond, making them an enigma on the battlefield – an anchor in the storm of mystical warfare.

The Spellrift Adept is a three stage Talent.

Spellrift Adept I

This is the first step on the path of the Spellrift Adept, a dawning understanding of the harmonic resonance between Qi and magic. The adept begins to perceive the flows of mystic energy around them, sensing their ebb and flow as clearly as the rhythm of their own breath. They learn to tune their Qi to this ethereal music, absorbing and manipulating it in its rawest form. The magic in the air is no longer a distant, abstract concept, but a tangible element that they can touch and shape.

Effect: Harmonizing your Qi with the magical forces, you attempt to move with the magic, redirecting it away. Make an opposed Attack Roll (Melee vs Triggering Attack) to attempt to Deflect the triggering attack.

Effect: If you deflect the attack away harmlessly, you may instead absorb the magic and restore 1d4 spent Stamina.
Master Augment, Energizing Deflection
[Spellrift Adept III, Qi Rank 7]
Effect: If you deflect the attack away harmlessly, you may instead redirect the magic to charge a Trinket you have equipped. If you use the Trinket within 1 round of being charged, when you roll the depletion check, you may also roll 1d4 and take the better result.

Trigger: Your ally casts a power with the Magical Keyword
Effect: Aligning your Qi with the magic, you strive to magnify and reshape its effects. Choose one of the following options:
  • Potency Enhancement: Increase the Potency of the triggering power by 1.
  • Recovery Enhancement: Decrease the Recovery time of the triggering power by 1. This is a Power Bonus and cannot reduce the recovery to less than 1.
Master Augment, Greater Shaping

Cost: 1 Resolve
Effect: Instead of the above, choose one of these options:
  • Cost Reduction: Decrease the spend cost of the triggering power by 1 Energy. This cannot reduce the cost below 0.
  • Tenacity: Increase any Save Ends effects of the triggering power by 1d10 [STP 1d10].
  • Widened: Increase the diameter or length of the area affected by the triggering power by 10 ft.
Master Augment, Masterful Shaping

Cost: 2 Resolve Burn
Effect: Instead of the above, choose one of these options:
  • Chained Targets: The primary effect of the triggering power now includes one additional target. Only powers that target specific creatures or objects (i.e. not those that affect an area) can be affected. If the power has a range of touch, then the caster may touch an additional target, otherwise the additional target must be within the range of the power. Powers that affect creatures with a secondary effect based on the primary target, also apply the effects to the additional target. For example, using this enhancement on Knife of Ice explodes and affects creatures around both primary targets. Note that a secondary target is only affected by the power once, even if secondary effects overlap.
  • Twinned Area: The caster of the triggering power may choose two different locations for the area of effect for the power. Overlapping areas do not stack in effect. For example, a power that affects a 20ft diameter area, would now affect two different 20ft diameter areas within range.

Spellrift Adept II

At this stage, the Adept has learned to play with the song of magic, to twist it and shape it in new ways. Their understanding of Qi and arcane energy deepens, becoming more instinctual. They stand unflinching in the face of spells, their harmonized Qi redirecting the mystical onslaught with deft precision. Their very presence seems to resonate with an arcane hum, enhancing the magical abilities of those around them, turning them into a living nexus of metaphysical and mystical energy.

Features

♦ Spellrift Synergy
You have a reserve of energy that may be used for the allocation costs of magical items and rituals equal to your Qi Rank.
♦ Spellrift Points
You may gain and spend Spellrift Points. You may spend these points in place of Stamina or Resolve costs. The maximum amount of Spellrift Points you may have is equal to your [Qi Rank + Eldritch Rank]. These points cannot be used for Burn costs. You can gain Spellrift points via your Spellrift Absorption ability. Unlike many other abilities, resting does not change your current Spellrift Point total.
♦ Spellrift Absorption
Whenever you are targeted by an Advanced or higher caliber Power with the Magical Keyword, you gain 1 Spellrift point. This applies even if your Spellrift Resistance ability prevents the spell from affecting you.
♦ Spellrift Resistance
You gain Magic Resistance equal to [1d6 + Qi Rank]. This resistance becomes inactive whenever you are Unconscious or Disabled. Additionally, you may activate it or deactivate it as a free action.

Spellrift Adept III

The Spellrift Adept at this level is a true master, a harmony of metaphysical and arcane forces in motion. They can dance through a storm of spells, untouched and unscathed, even turning the magic of others into a weapon of their own. The raw energy of absorbed spells can be unleashed in a torrent of arcane power, a testament to their mastery over the dance of dual forces. Their mere presence is a bastion against mystical onslaughts, a beacon of arcane harmony in the chaos of battle.

Hit: 2d8 Annihilation Damage.
Miss: Half Damage
Structural Effect: Structures in the area are subject to attack, Demolition +5 vs Durability.
Master Augment, Greater Rupture
Stacking: This augment may be applied an unlimited number times and is only limited by its cost.
Cost: 1 Spellrift Point
Effect: Increase the damage dealt by 2d8. Increase the Demolition bonus by 3. Increase the length of the cone by 10ft.
