Deep within the hottest environs of both the mortal planes and hell itself, reside the Dire Hellhounds. Just as nature can have its dire creatures, so too can the extraplanar realities. These hulking brutes resemble their smaller cousins, but their fur is a much darker red, sometimes even ash black, with stiff hair that rises like thousands of needles upon their backs. They move terrifyingly quick, and most who glimpse such a creature will liken them to ravening, smoldering shadows with two angry, glowing red points of light for eyes. When they unleash their explosive burning breath upon their victims, their true, vaguely lupine appearance can be seen in the sudden light provided by their assault. So terrifying are these creatures, that many devils, fire giants, and other powerful flamekin will seek to tame these beasts as pets and guards. These beasts stand about 8 feet tall at the shoulder, and can weigh up to 1,000 lbs.
