Hyena

Hyena
Level 2 (+2)
"Look, guys. Don’t roll your eyes, because I know what you’re going to want to say, but it's not what you think ...I swear that thing was mocking me."
——Teflis Renolas, Halfling Bard and survivor of a Hyena attack.
Hyenas are any feliform carnivoran mammals of the family Hyaenidae. They are cat-like creatures, some displaying spots on mottled white-yellow fur, while others feature stripes. These two differences in appearance denote a specific kind of Hyena. Spotted Hyenas are largely predatory carnivores, and kill most of what they eat, while Striped Hyenas are scavengers, and will eat dead or living creatures. Despite their similar behavior and appearance to cats, some of their physical traits resemble those of dogs. Their claws are non-retractable, ideal for running and taking sharp turns across terrain when pursuing prey, and they prefer to catch their food within their teeth, similar to other hunting felines. Hyenas have relatively short torsos and are fairly large and wolf-like in build. Depending on the type of Hyena, they can weigh up to almost 150 lbs., and grow to almost 5 feet in length. Perhaps the most noticeable trait of the Hyena is its high pitched, humanoid like vocalization that sounds akin to laughter, something that is a source of fear for any potential food source found outside during the night by these lurking predators.
