"I lit the barrel up and kicked it down the stairs to the gate entrance, saw the fiery explosion and considered the stupid beast dealt with. Then it stood up from behind that impossibly large shield it was hiding behind. It let out a low, gurgling chuckle, shaking its head as it walked up to me brandishing a sword the size of my body. I knew right then and there that it was going to be the longest night of my life."
——Bander Blackwater, former Captain of the Guard of the Northern Greatwood Fort
It is unfortunate for most other mortal races that trolls exist. It is more unfortunate still when a Troll receives training in combat, for they are sufficiently deadly with their natural talents. A War Troll usually exists because someone with a lot of resources, time and money found it worth their while to harness the awesome combative powers of these creatures for themselves, and give them properly military training. These creatures are not prone to attacking savagely and recklessly as their common brethren. They are capable of devastating attacks with weapons, backed by their powerful frames, as well as combative strategy. Even if one has the means to properly destroy a troll, seeing such a creature clad in armor and weaponry is a sure sign that the victory will not come easily.

    Characteristics

Trolls are viscous, predatory monsters. Their racial heritage has often been attributed to a cross between Giants and Fungi. Their regenerative abilities and strong aversion to fire would seem to support the theory, but as to how this would be possible, no one is quite sure. Troll Height averages from 8-10 feet, commonly weighing upward of 500 pounds with thick, rubbery and moss covered skin, ranging in color from light brown to yellow to dark greens. Trolls are known for walking with a long, loping and somewhat awkward gait that only adds to their menacing appearance. Coupled with their incredible strength and tenacious fortitude, Trolls are a terrifying sight to most, and are often the subject of tales meant to frighten children.

    History

Trolls are notorious for harassing and/or eating all creatures they come in contact with, and seem to hold no allegiances with any race or force other than their own, unless being controlled through fear, and on a rare occasion, bribed. The latter alliances have been known to fail in the past, as trolls are quick to lash out at anyone based on the whims of their stomachs. At certain points in history, particularly large troll encampments (often referred to as Infestations) expanded at a far too rapid pace due to local climate, abundance of food and some other undisclosed reasons. An entire kingdom was at one time overrun by an extraordinarily large gathering of trolls and pulled down underneath the earth, vanishing into the earth. Many suspect this was an act of vengeance against the common races for their conquest of nature, but many find it unlikely that trolls harbor such noble intentions. Some believe the kingdom still exists, trapped in underground caves, but few adventurers desire to go looking for it.

    Culture

Troll culture seems to be loosely tribal based, but only because trolls tend to gather together in one place, usually with a larger one appearing as some sort of leader. For the most part, Trolls tend to act on their own unless they are summoned to battle by their brethren. Trolls are a warlike race, but lack the sophistication of tactics and strategy, favoring brute strength above all else. Trolls sometimes lurk about in smaller groups of two or three, living in areas closer to other species and races. Trolls prefer to have their food in easy reach, and are not averse to living in uncomfortable environments if it means they can feed themselves easily. They can be found in caves, forests, mountains, lakes, even living under bridges in some extreme. cases
