Often mistaken for stalagmites, the Roper is in fact an intelligent beast with a rough, grey-green skin that resembles rock. It is almost 10 feet tall, with a base of about 4 feet around that extends up to a thin, flat top almost 1 foot in diameter. It has one large eye set just above a wide, gaping maw filled with rows of tiny jagged teeth. Its preferred method of attack is to lash out with the long, thin, rubbery tentacles it conceals within its body at an unsuspecting victim and drag it into its mouth so it can feed. Despite this simple existence, Ropers are both evil and cunning. They are capable of speaking, but rarely do since most things they encounter are considered to be food. On occasion, a Roper can be coerced to guard a cavernous lair for the right “tribute”.
