Ruin

Powers and abilities that cause widespread destruction have a Demolition Score and can cause a Structure to gain levels of Ruin. Each level of Ruin reduces the integrity of the structure. Enough levels of Ruin and a structure will completely collapse into debris. See Structural Damage for more information.

Effects of Ruin
LevelStageEffects
0UndamagedThe structure is sound and in good condition.
1-2BatteredThe structure is lightly damaged, showing wear, marring, cracks, dents, small holes, etc.
3-4BreachedThe structure is moderately damaged, including holes large enough for a medium sized creature to move through.
5-6CompromisedThe Structure is highly damaged with significant portions broken or missing. Portions of the roof and walls collapse, which may present a Collapse Hazard to creatures within the structure when it is damaged.
7+RazedThe whole structure collapses into rubble it is considered destroyed. This presents a Collapse Hazard to any creatures within the structure when it is damaged.

Ongoing Ruin

Certain powers and abilities or damage types can cause a structure to take Ongoing Ruin. When a structure is subject to ongoing Ruin, it take the amount of ruin specified at the end of every phase (this is different than most ongoing effects, which usually apply the ongoing amount immediately). If the Ongoing Ruin is stopped before the end of the phase (such as putting out a fire), the structure avoids further Ruin.

Flammable is the most common form of Ongoing Ruin, and is automatically applied whenever a structure takes Fire damage (or is lit on fire). For example, a building made of Soft Wood (Flammable 2) is set on fire and burns for a phase. At the end of this time it gains 2 levels of Ruin. If the fire continues to burn for another phase, the structure gains 2 more levels of Ruin (a total of 4 levels). The fire is finally put out before another phase completes and the structure remains at 4 levels of Ruin.

Assessing Ruin

Skills like Engineering and Carpentry can be used to assess the current Ruin level of a structure and whether or not a structure is dangerous. This isn't a particularly difficult skill check, with a DC 5 to learn the general Stage of Ruin, and a DC 15 to learn the exact Ruin level.

Removing Ruin

Ruin can be removed by repairing a structure through Engineering, Carpentry, Masonry, and similar skills. Some Magical abilities can also reduce Ruin. The time (days) and resources it takes to repair a structure are highly variable, depending on the skill of the workers involved, the materials present, and other factors. Structures that are completely Razed must be constructed anew.
