Hazards

Hazards are environmental challenges that PCs face in the course of an adventure. While they are typically natural in origin, they can sometimes be man-made or magically conjured. While not necessarily providing a direct challenge for the PCs, Hazards can either create an extra level of challenge during a combat situation or require players to problem solve to bypass the hazard.

Hazards come in many different forms and can include physical obstacles (such as a large ravine or cliff wall), weather conditions, dangerous terrain, and toxic or dangerous objects. Hazards don't usually grant Experience individually and are instead incorporated into Story Awards, but if the Hazard is particularly challenging to bypass, consider granting a small amount of xp for the Hazard itself (50-200xp per player depending on the difficulty). If a Hazard is used to provide an extra challenge in a combat situation (and that Hazard affects the PCs unilaterally), consider increasing the Experience granted by the encounter to each player (25-100xp depending on the difficulty).
