Mirror Blade

"It’s been said that two brains are better than one, but I would prefer to just have the extra body and think for the both of us."
——Lanela the Duplicitous, a Mirror Blade

The Mirror Blade has combined their interest for martial combat with their mastery of the eldritch arts to create a unique and extraordinary power. Throughout history, many Wizards and Sorcerers have attempted to find ways to solidify Illusory magics into actual living, breathing creatures and objects, but the task of making a fabrication into the real thing is too difficult. Mirror Blades focus their intentions, and found the key was a singular focus on the type of creations they wanted to make. It is this singular focus that makes them excellent mercenaries, assassins, bodyguards and solo adventurers. Mirror Blades are well known for taking on jobs meant for two, because they have the resources to handle it and still get to keep all of the reward for themselves. While some Mirror Blades can be found amongst adventuring parties, it is a bit rarer. Inevitably, they simply recognize that they don’t need the extra help, and they get along better with themselves anyways.

The Mirror Blade is a three stage Talent.

Mirror Blade I

The Mirror Blade learns how to cast in the heat of battle so they can summon their creations without presenting targets. This skill is most commonly used to summon the Mirror Duplicate, a substantial clone of themselves that, while not having any real power, can act as a decoy to confuse enemies.

Prerequisites

  • Eldritch Rank 5
  • Martial Rank 2
  • Mirror Image as a Mastered Spell.
  • Cost: 3 Destiny Points

Features

♦ Defensive Casting
Before you complete the casting of an Eldritch Spell, you may choose to increase the Casting Time by 1 segment as a Free Action. If you do, the spell no longer Provokes.
♦ Mirror Duplicate
Gain the power Mirror Duplicate.
Mirror Duplicate
Magic Resistance: No
Mirror Blade Class Feature [Mimic]
Cast Action [CT 4, REC 1]
Components: V, S
Potency: [1d8 + Eldritch Rank]
Cost: 1 Stamina
Limitation: You may only have one instance of this spell active at a time and it may not be used in conjunction with the Mirror Image spell.
Duration: 10 rounds or until dismissed, dispelled, or disrupted.
Range: 100ft
Effect: You create a semi-solid illusory duplicate image of yourself that is virtually indistinguishable from you. Your duplicate does not take actions, but will perfectly mimic your movements so as to make it difficult to tell the two of you apart. When you take an action to move, your duplicate may also move using the same movement mode (though in a direction of your choice, and need not be in the same direction). Your duplicate may also serve as a valid target for your Illusion Spells that affect or change the target's appearance.

Your duplicate has substance and takes up space (equivalent to you) and may therefore be targeted by attacks. It has the same Defenses, Saving Throws, and Grapple score as you and maximum hitpoints equal to your Healing Value. The duplicate is immune to all Status Effects, expect for those associated with a Grapple or those that deal damage (such as Ongoing damage effects). Whenever you take the Recovery Action, your duplicate may also make a Saving Throw. Your duplicate does not Threaten and does not contribute to Flanking. Your duplicate also does not count towards Superior Numbers when calculating Tide of Battle.

If your duplicate is reduced to 0 hitpoints, it falls to the ground and remains there as if slain. Your duplicate may be the the target of healing abilities, and if there are any Energy costs associated with the healing, you must pay those costs.

Your duplicate must remain within range of you at all times. If the range is ever exceeded, your duplicate disappears and this ability ends.

Master Augment, Enduring Duplicate
[Mirror Blade I]
Cost: Change the cost to 1 Stamina burn
Effect: Extend the duration of this ability to 1 phase.
Master Augment, Extra Duplicate
[Mirror Blade II, Stacking]
Stacking [Mirror Blade II & III]: This augment may be applied twice and is limited by your tier in the Mirror Blade talent.
Effect: Increase the number of duplicates by 1. When you take an action to Move, only one of your duplicates may move. Similarly, when you use the Recovery Action, only one of your duplicates may make a Saving Throw.
Master Augment, Fighting Duplicate
[Mirror Blade II]
Cost: 4 Stamina
Effect: Your duplicates now Threaten, and therefore contribute to Flanking, and may utilize your Melee Basic Attack when granted an Opportunity. Additionally, whenever you make a Weapon Attack, you may choose whether the attack originates from you or from one of your Duplicates.
Master Augment, Casting Duplicate
[Mirror Blade III]
Requirement: You must be utilizing the Fighting Duplicate augment.
Effect: Whenever you cast an Eldritch Spell, you may choose whether the spell originates from you or from one of your duplicates. An attack on your duplicates during the time of your casting does not interrupt your Concentration, even if the duplicate hit is the intended origination point for the spell. Attacks on you can interrupt your Concentration as normal. Additionally, if the spell originating from your duplicate Provokes, the duplicate grants an opportunity as normal.

Mirror Blade II

Learning how to expand their duplication powers, a Mirror Blade can now create a psychic copy of any weapon they see, and even mimic its properties. This weapon feels real enough to a target, and can be used in a pinch if the Mirror Blade is suddenly without defenses. They enhance the Mirror Duplicate ability as well, the faux body now capable of attacking and serving as the point of origin for the original’s melee attacks. An additional duplicate can also be created, further confusing the battlefield.
