Gorgon Characteristics

This large beast resembles a powerful bull; however, it is covered in metallic scales as opposed to skin. This creates an extremely resilient armor around the beast, adding a level of toughness to an already powerful monster that makes even seasoned adventurers second guess approaching it. Gorgons are well known for being temperamental and territorial. They attack almost every new creature that they see on sight with animalistic fury, attempting to Trample them into the ground, then petrify them with the bizarre greenish gas they emit from their snouts. A Gorgon stands over 6 feet tall at the shoulder, around 8 feet in length and can weigh up to 4,000 pounds due to its incredible density.

Culture

Gorgons are most commonly found in labyrinths and ancient temples or ruins. Places that a higher power has often sought to protect. Since Gorgons are direct creatures, and do not seem to need to eat, these environments are well suited to them. They wander long, narrow corridors searching for prey, understanding that it is very difficult to get away from their animalistic rampages in such an environment. As far as personal motivations for protecting such areas, none seem to be clear. It is speculated that many Gorgons are not of natural creation and may have been made for a specific purpose.

History

The first Gorgon was reported to have been the creation of a vengeful god against a mortal that had been gathering up his treasures on the physical plane, but that creature was believed to have been slain by the adventurer. Since the creatures cannot reproduce, and are solitary by nature, the truth of how many more came to inhabit other forgotten properties of ancient legend is unknown. Many suspect that they are actually made by the gods, and the secrets of their creation are shared only among the divine.
