Destrachan Characteristics

This bizarre monstrosity appears to be some sort of reptile; however, it walks on two muscular hind legs with slightly smaller arms, both equipped with razor sharp claws. It lacks eyes and a nose, but has massive ears and a large, gaping, toothless maw. It uses its incredible hearing to compensate for a lack of other senses, along with the incredible sonic blasts it emits from its mouth to navigate terrain. A Destrachan is roughly 10 feet long and weighs anywhere from 9,500 to 11,000 pounds. Their skin is a mixture of grey and brown striped thick scaled hide.

Culture

Destrachans can act alone or in groups. They are cunning creatures, more intelligent than an average humanoid. Despite their cruel and selfish nature, they often recognize the value of working in groups, especially if they need to attack a large settlement of neighboring creatures that have encroached on their territory. It is perhaps only because there are, fortunately, so few of them, that they are rarely encountered in packs. In the event that they are, it is almost always with purpose. Their motivations for why they act as they do are largely unknown, but it is understood that they are not native to the material plane and may serve a darker purpose with their activities in the mortal realm.

History

Roles in history for these creatures are spotty and filled with horrific tales. Some are possibly myths about kidnapped humanoids being pulled from below ground into a life of imprisonment and pain, others are realistic accountings of sudden and brutal sonic assaults that left an entire city devastated. They never take treasure or wealth of any kind, not even food, only people. Some believe that there are a finite number of them, unable to return to their home plane, so many of them kidnap other humanoids and somehow create more of their own species with the bodies. This, however, is purely speculation, as such a process has never been observed by anyone able to warn others.
