Frost Giant Characteristics

Frost giants appear as large, muscular humanoids with pale blue skin and hair color ranging from a pale yellow to snow white. Most males grow various styles of facial hair, with their eyes typically sharing the color of their body hair. Frost giants are possessed of a clan mentality, and as such adorn their chain armor, hides, and furs with a variety of tokens from slain enemies, such as skulls, feathers, looted equipment too small for them to wear, and sometimes even petrified organs of large beasts they have slain. Frost giants, as their name would suggest, are infused with the element of the environments they prefer to inhabit, so much so that they exude cold energy with every attack they make and are immune to cold themselves. This also makes them vulnerable to fire, perhaps their only weakness, something diligent adventurers would do well to remember. Frost giants are known for cruelty and barbarism towards creatures they view as weak and tend to be quick to squash those who are not like them. They tend to range between 2500-3000 pounds and can grow to upwards of 15 feet in height.

History

Frost Giants were believed to have once been from a large tribe of common Hill Giants, who were forced out by several smaller tribes, sick of their domineering savagery. Dashed to nearly half their number, and with no place left to go, they moved high up into the mountains of the far north where weaker creatures could not survive in the harsh and unforgiving climate. Over time, and with no natural predators or any real opposition to their growth, the giants adapted to their new home, becoming tied to the frozen mountains, and eventually spreading out to similar environs as their numbers swelled. This time in the harsh tundras and frozen wastes of the world strengthened them, making them grow larger and more resilient against the ravages of weather. Since their repopulation, Frost Giants have been seen hunting large beasts for food and sport in their snow-capped homeland, and occasionally raiding villages and towns nestled in the snowy countryside.

Culture

The society of Frost Giants is much like the rumors suggest. They are largely tribal, with a rudimentary Clan type hierarchy. They respect strength above all other things, so it is typical for one of their number, larger, more cunning, and more charismatic than the rest, to rise through the ranks to rule the clan with strength and brutality. This leader is given the title of Jarl, and usually takes a wife, typically the strongest and most attractive of the females, and many of these potential queens are powerful Elemental caters of their kind. Allegiances of these sorts are ideal for the rulership of a tribe, as the combination of strength and divine power serves as a lasting deterrent against being overthrown by rising upstarts within the clan. Once dominance is established, Frost Giants act much like any other barbarian tribe would, hunting, raiding and feasting off their spoils. They tend to be much more successful given their size and power, so it is fortunate that most Frost Giants tend to live in more remote areas away from the smaller races, especially given their preference for capturing slaves as servants and emergency food.
